Control Room on USS Cavalla |
USS Cavalla control room. The control was the heart of the ship. You are
looking at the Hull Opening Panel which indicates the state of Cavallas
hull openings. The panel has circles and bars, "straight
board" meant all hull openings were shut and it
was safe to dive. Below the Hull Opening Panel are the controls for the ballast tank vents and valves. To the left of the Hull Opening Panel are the controls for the bow and stern planes. The bow planes controlled the depth and the stern planes controlled the angle of the boat. |
